abstract = "The land use practices adopted in Amazonia, related to
deforestation and the intensification of pasture and agricultural
areas, can affect the regional climate, ecosystems and global
climate. Micrometeorological studies have been conducted in the
Amazon for approximately 30 years, however, the measurements
obtained by these experiments are generally representative of
small areas. The present study aimed to estimate the sensible heat
flux, from ASTER data and the SEBAL model, for a region located in
the eastern part of Rond{\^o}nia state (RO), and to validate the
results with information acquired by a micrometeorological tower
of LBA project installed within the study area. To run the SEBAL
model, air temperature and wind speed data obtained by the LBA
tower and ASTER reflectance and surface temperature products were
used. The estimates obtained by the proposed methodology showed to
be very reliable in comparision with observational measurements,
presenting a mean relative error of \≈5%. The use of ASTER
images and the SEBAL model was a useful procedure for estimating
and spatializing the sensible heat flux in Amazonia, which may
contribute to a better understanding of the interaction mechanisms
between land surface and atmosphere in the region.",
